Labour for this service is $15-20 depending on the type of headset you have. The cost of replacement parts not included in this rate. The service takes anywhere between $15 – $30 mins depending on your headset type and whether we need to add some WD-40 love to get things apart. Bearings are the most common thing that need replacement and cost $4.99 each for retainer style bearings (most cruiser and towne bikes), and anywhere from $20-50+ for sealed bearings on fancier headsets (and usually need to be specially ordered).
In this service we take your headset apart, apply new fresh grease and bearings if you need and put it all back together.
Common Question: Can we do the service without replacing bearings?
Answer: Yes and No. Your old bearings can be cleaned and reused, though we don’t recommend this unless they are still in really good condition (unlikely if you’re in need of a service in the first place). In most cases we find that the balls are loose or falling out and in extreme cases the cage itself is beginning to decay or completely disintegrated – in this case you’d basically have to replace the bearings.
